Barbara is a former state athlete and state record holder for a woman high jumper (1.66 m), and has been involved in athletics since the age of 12 years as a high jumper and long jumper at primary and secondary school – also running 4×100 and 4×400 distances. She represented Sabah as a high jumper aged 16-21 in many national tournaments in Malaysia, breaking several school/district/state high jump records.
Later, working in the Telecommunication industry, she represented her company for 12 years in a variety of sports including track and field, volleyball, netball, badminton and futsal. Barbara has been involved actively in badminton since 2006 and has played regularly in club badminton tournaments.
She started distance running (10km) in 2012, and more recently took up competitive running – quickly achieving podium finishes in major races:
10km- 49 min in BIM 2016
21km – 1.57, Penang Marathon 2015
42km – 4.29, Kuching Marathon 2016
50km- BuayanTrail, 9hours 20min.
Barbara’s qualifications now include Sports Science level 1-2 (2008), UMS PT Course (2016), and Badminton Coach Level 1 (2010).
Barbara says she is a person who is really enthused by sport – no matter what kind of sport so long as it involves physical strength, and challenges the body and mind. She loves to help people to change their lifestyle and to be achievers – just like her! She tells Warriors: “never give up on trying, we can achieve our goal when we believe and have integrity. Aim to keep fit and young in heart forever!”
